Plot Summary

A Band of Misfit Young Men

The story begins when an English rancher, John Tunstall, hires a group of troubled but promising young men to work on his ranch. Among them are:

  • Billy the Kid (Emilio Estevez) – a hot-tempered, quick-shooting drifter

  • Doc Scurlock – intelligent and thoughtful

  • Dick Brewer – loyal and disciplined

  • Chavez y Chavez – skilled tracker and marksman

  • Dirty Steve and Charley Bowdre – rough but loyal cowboys

Tunstall aims to reform them, giving them purpose and protection.


The Murder that Changes Everything

When Tunstall is murdered by hired gunmen working for his rival, Lawrence Murphy, the boys are devastated. Seeking justice, they join the local authorities as “Regulators,” sworn to capture Tunstall’s killers.

But Billy soon pushes the group beyond lawful limits.


From Justice to Revenge

What begins as an attempt to arrest criminals quickly escalates into violent retaliation. Billy’s unpredictable nature and desire for revenge transform the Regulators into outlaws in the eyes of the law.

As their fame grows, so does the manhunt against them.
