Venom: The Last Dance

Source: Popline.id

Venom: The Last Dance is the final installment in the Venom sequel series produced by Sony Pictures. The film is being remade with Tom Hardy, also known as Eddie Brock, as the lead actor. The film is scheduled for release on November 8, 2024.

PLOT SUMMARY

The film's story begins immediately after the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Eddie Brock and Venom are seen drinking at a Mexican bar. Things take a turn for the worse when they are accused of being the prime suspects in the murder of Patrick Mulligan. Forced to clear their names, Eddie and Venom decide to return to New York. During their plane ride, they unwittingly become the targets of the Xenophage, a symbiote-eating alien sent by order of Knull, the creator of the entire symbiote race. This hunt marks the beginning of Eddie and Venom's perilous journey to confront the threat of an extraterrestrial invasion of Earth.

REVIEW

Positivies:

  • Eddie & Venom's Relationship: The awkward, humorous, and affectionate interactions between Eddie and Venom remain the main attraction and the best entertainment. Their contemplative moments manage to provide the emotional depth befitting the title "The Last Dance."
  • Action and Visuals: Technically, the action scenes and visual effects (VFX) are considered quite capable and pleasing to the eye, especially in the climactic battle.

Negatives:

  • Chaotic and Rushed Plot: The film tries to cram in too many elements (escape from the government, Knull's conflict, the Xenophage, new characters), which makes the plot feel jumpy and inconsistent.
  • Underexplored Main Antagonist: The introduction of key characters like Knull (the Symbiote's creator) and the Xenophage (the monster chasing Venom) feels fleeting and lacks sufficient depth or threat.
  • Uneven Tone Mix: While the humor is enjoyable, the blend of Venom's signature silliness with the big emotional moments at the end feels less than organic, with some even calling the emotional goodbye moments "insincere."

IS IT WORTH IT ?

Unfortunately, the final result feels a bit unsatisfying due to the chaotic and rushed plot. Furthermore, much of the main antagonist's story is under-detailed. This makes the film a truly unfortunate farewell for the Eddie and Venom duo.
